Beagle Puppy Dog

A Beagle puppy dog attracts dog lovers all over the world by its cute appearance and intelligence. Many Beagles are obtained as family pets and playing companions for children. A superb sense of smell is nowadays a benefit only in working Beagles used for detecting drugs, dangerous agents, and banned plants. Hunting instincts of pet Beagles are only a nuisance for most owners, because dogs of this breed are often very curious, busy, hyperactive, and disobedient. It takes much time and patience to “neutralize” searching and chasing instincts and make Beagles obey commands.

The popularity of a Beagle puppy dog is not always good for the breed in general and for individual dogs in particular. Since the demand for Beagles is very high among novice owners, many backyard breeders produce mediocre and poor quality dogs for sale. First-time owners cannot detect defects in health, behavior, and conformation of a puppy or an adult dog and buy problematic pets, thus encouraging further breeding of defective Beagles. When dogs are produced massively, breeders don’t care about screening the breeding stock for genetic disorders. It results in numerous defects that develop in adult or senior dogs. Some owners breed dogs obtained from backyard breeders and transmit defective genes to the next generation.

Only high quality dogs can be bred. Some show quality animals with excellent conformation and working abilities are not suited for breeding, because they have recessive genes leading to serious disorders in the offspring. Breeding purebred dogs is a great responsibility, because careless breedings spoil the bloodline. A serious breeder who cares about the future of the breed in general will sell a pet quality Beagle puppy dog only with a spay or neuter guarantee.

Pet shops are full of purebred dogs produced for profit. Pet shop puppies though cute and funny, cannot grow up into well-behaved, obedient, and healthy dogs, as they lack basic socialization and interaction with humans. All animals in pet stores come from backyard breeders or puppy mills. A devoted and responsible breeder will never sell puppies to a pet store. If you want a high quality Beagle puppy dog, avoid pet stores and puppy mills, but look for a good kennel.
