Beagle Puppy
A Beagle puppy is but the most attractive creature in the canine world. The popularity of this breed is based mainly on its funny looks and personality rather than on its working abilities. Several centuries ago, Beagles were popular as hounds. They could be followed on foot and made hunting a pleasant pastime for the nobility. Today, hunting with dogs is banned in most countries, but sociable, friendly, loyal, playful, intelligent, and self-assured Beagles haven’t lost their popularity.
Owning a Beagle puppy is a fascinating experience for an experienced dog owner who can control, housebreak, and train a very agile and intelligent dog. Those who are not ready to deal with a stubborn, noisy, and hyperactive puppy should consider an adult Beagle or a pet of any other breed. All Beagles are very active, inquisitive, and curious. The owner should not suppress the personality of the dog, but rather train it to obey when necessary.
This breed is very quick to mature. Socializing and training a Beagle puppy should be started as early as possible. Those who have no time or patience should not own a Beagle puppy. Adult Beagles make good pets for active families and for children of all ages. People who are at work for the most part of the day should not obtain a Beagle, because these dogs howl and suffer from separation anxiety when left alone.
Beagles should be kept in a secure yard; living in a small apartment is not good for an active and intelligent hound. Even a well-fenced yard is not a guarantee from roaming. Beagles are good diggers and climbers. When bored, they become very motivated escape artists. If they want to go out, they can even learn to open the door. Some Beagles are reported to escape from the yard in the morning and come back before the owner comes home from work. A pair of Beagles will play all day long without trying to escape. This breed is not territorial and keeping several dogs will not lead to conflicts. A Beagle puppy is easier to train and housebreak, if there is a well-trained adult Beagle in the house.
